Kathleen Tarbell “fell head over my stomach” for her husband Waldo when they met at a dance. They married in 1927, during Calvin Coolidge’s presidency. This weekend, they’ll celebrate their 80th anniversary.
Waldo is 101 and Kathleen will turn 100 in June. The anniversary party will be Saturday afternoon at Oceanview Nursing Home, where the couple shares a large room. Read the rest of this entry →

A man landed in hot water after police say he hid a tiny camera in a shampoo bottle to watch two of his female roommates as they took showers.

Twenty-two years ago, Mahlon Webb Jr. wrote a note, put it in a bottle and tossed it into the ocean at a North Carolina Beach. Five years ago, he got a call from a woman on Grand Cayman Island saying she’d found the bottle.

City officials have purchased 1,000 hand-held boat horns to help residents scare off coyotes. Code compliance manager Dirk Voss said this week he bought the horns early last month after residents complained that coyotes were killing their pets.

Police were trying to pick up the trail of three people suspected of staging a panty raid this week at a Victoria’s Secret in Newport Center Mall. The trio — two men and a woman — were able to thwart security sensors at the store because they used shopping bags lined with aluminum foil, known as “booster bags,” police said. A security camera at the store caught the heist, but not before the trio grabbed dozens of bras and women’s panties from two display tables. A group of Chinese reporters came up with a novel idea to test how greedy local hospitals were — pass off tea as urine samples and submit the drink for tests.
